Euro Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation
Following the guidelines of the World Moo Duk Kwan, the Euro Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation certifies its instructors according to the following structure.
Certified Instructors serve a very important role in the preservation of our art and are the primary practitioners responsible for protecting and maintaining the authenticity, legitimacy and credibility of our martial art as created by its founder and entrusted to us for preservation.

Kyo (助敎) – Certified assistant to an instructor
A Jo Kyo is an assistant to a certified instructor and has a “sun and moon” relationship. The Jo Kyo is
responsible to assist their certified instructor as follows including, but not limited to:
Assisting a certified instructor conducting a class. The assistant’s role is to help with class management and look to the individual needs of the students in a way that enhances the class without being noticed (mu sang).
Teaching a prescribed lesson or section of a lesson under the direction of a certified instructor.
The Jo Kyo’s approach to teaching is to mimic or reflect the certified instructor to begin developing fundamentals in teaching.
General requirements
Must be a member in good standing of World Moo Duk Kwan®.
Loyalty to the Moo Duk Kwan® through their instructor and to its Founder, Hwang Kee and President,
H.C. Hwang Kwan Jang Nim.
Sound moral character.
Regular weekly Dojang attendance with a record of consistent teaching experience.
Good record of participation in clinics and other activities conducted on a Studio and Regional Level.
If over 18 and living in the Europe provide proof of completed background check and Child Safety training prior to exam.
Must have attained the rank of 3 rd Gup or higher and be at least 10 years of age.
Minimum of three (3) months teaching experience under the guidance of a certified Sa Bom / Kyo Sa.
Must be in possession of the Jo Kyo Study Kit for at least 90 days before exam.
Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan® Leadership Training Progression
Kyo Sa (敎師) – Certified teacher of students
A Kyo Sa is a certified instructor at the Yu Dan Ja level. As a representative of the Moo Duk Kwan® organization
and one who is authorized to teach the Soo Bahk Do martial art, a Kyo Sa should be capable of successfully
guiding Gup level students until at least Cho Dan. Where a Jo Kyo merely follows the instruction of a certified
instructor, a Kyo Sa is a Moo Do leader that must be able to stand on his or her own. A Kyo Sa also assumes the
important role of inspiring, educating and motivating students to become members of the World Moo Duk
Kwan® and appropriate country organizations.
General requirements
Must be a member in good standing of World Moo Duk Kwan®.
Loyalty to the Moo Duk Kwan® through their instructor and to its Founder, Hwang Kee and President, H.C. Hwang Kwan Jang Nim.
Sound moral character.
Regular weekly Dojang attendance with a record of good teaching experience.
Contribution in service to country organization.
Good record of participation in clinics and other activities conducted on studio, regional, national, and international levels, under the guidance of the TAC.
If over 18 and living in the zone 3, provide proof of completed background check and child safety training prior to exam.
Understands Mission 2000.
Must have attained the rank of Cho Dan (1 st Dan) or higher and be at least 18 years of age.
Must have fulfilled all Jo Kyo requirements.
Minimum of 12 months teaching experience under the guidance of a certified Sa Bom / Kyo Sa.
Must be in possession of the Kyo Sa Study Kit for at least 12 month.
Kyo Bom (敎範)
A Kyo Bom is a high-level practitioner who represents the Soo Bahk Do martial art in accordance with Moo Duk
Kwan® standards and expectations as an individual practitioner and contributor. As a Ko Dan Ja member, one
can successfully teach and convey the art to students through individual classes. A Kyo Bom may sit on a Gup
Shim Sa if invited by a certified Kyo Sa, Bu Sa Bom, or Sa Bom, but cannot recommend rank promotion at the
Gup or Dan level.
General requirements
Must be a member in good standing of World Moo Duk Kwan®.
Loyalty to the Moo Duk Kwan® through their instructor and to its Founder, Hwang Kee and President, H.C. Hwang Kwan Jang Nim.
Sound moral character.

Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan® Leadership Training Progression
Bu Sa Bom (副師範) – Certified Sa Bom Apprentice
‘Bu Sa Bom’ can be translated as an ‘assistant master model.’ A Bu Sa Bom is a certified instructor (Kyo Sa) at
the Ko Dan Ja level. As a representative of the Moo Duk Kwan® organization and one who is authorized to
teach the Soo Bahk Do martial art, a Bu Sa Bom should be capable of successfully guiding students of all levels.
A Bu Sa Bom is an experienced moo do leader and practitioner. A Bu Sa Bom also assumes the important role
of inspiring, educating and motivating students to become members of the World Moo Duk Kwan® and
appropriate country organizations.
General requirements
Must be a member in good standing of World Moo Duk Kwan®.

Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan® Leadership Training Progression
Sa Bom (師範) – Certified teacher of teachers
“Sa Bom” can be translated as a “master model”. A Sa Bom is the example of a Moo Duk Kwan® trained
instructor of the Soo Bahk Do martial art system and is the vessel used to pass on the art from one generation to the next. Under the direction of the TAC, a Sa Bom can officiate and evaluate in Yu Dan Ja Shim Sa and can evaluate at a Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa. A Sa Bom teaches at the Gup, Dan, and Ko Dan Ja level as well as instructs
future instructors as they prepare for Jo Kyo, Kyo Sa, Kyo Bom, Bu Sa Bom and Sa Bom. A Sa Bom is also responsible for inspiring, educating, and motivating students to become members of their country Federation, and for servicing members of their Federation by assuring that they receive membership and rank related materials to which they are entitled.
General requirements
Must be a member in good standing of World Moo Duk Kwan®.

Sound moral character.
Demonstrate a proven record of new student introduction to the art and taking instructional ownership of those students’ development and progression (studio ownership is not required).
Contribution in service to World Moo Duk Kwan® and their country organization.
Good record of participation in clinics and other activities conducted on studio, regional, national, and international levels, under the guidance of the TAC.
Demonstrates a high degree of proactive leadership within the Moo Duk Kwan®.
If over 18 and living in the zone 3, provide proof of completed background check and child safety training prior to exam.
Must have attained the rank of Sa Dan (4 th Dan) or higher and be at least 25 years of age.
Minimum of seven (7) years teaching experience.
Has fulfilled all Jo Kyo and Kyo Sa (and/or Kyo Bom) requirements.
Must be in possession of the Sa Bom Certification Study Kit for at least 24 months.
